Annual Mary Goya Conference

The annual Mary Goya Conference and East Hawaii Early Learning Consortium Conference for early childhood educators was recently held at Hawaii Community College Children’s Center. It was a gathering of professionals who work with young children in various settings, including daycare centers, preschools, and kindergarten classrooms. The theme for this years conference was Ola I Ka Wai: The wonders of water. Workshops were focused around this theme.

The conference featured keynote speaker, Eva Moravcik, she has taught early childhood education at Honolulu Community College for more than thirty years. Eva is author of several books for teachers: Who Am I in the Lives of Children?; Meaningful Curriculum for Young Children; Teaching the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct; Discovering Me and My World; and a children’s book: A is for Aloha.At the conference, educators can learn about new teaching techniques and strategies, as well as the latest research in early childhood education.

Presentors for this conference varies from former intructors, students, teachers and community members. Former Preschool teacher for over 40 years Ms. Bernie Pavao, Entrepenure and former preschool teacher Haunani Miyasato, Educational specialist Dustin Chin, Program specialist Wendy Correa, current HawCC Early childhood Education instructor Jana Smith, Environmental Supervisor Debbie Weeks, PhD, IT specialist Micah Mizumoto and Mary Goya, former professor of Early childhood Education and founder of Hawaii Community College’s Early Childhood Education program.

Conference participants had the opportunity to connect with other educators from around the island sharing ideas and experiences to help improve their teaching practices.

Attending this annual conference was an excellent way for educators to stay up-to-date on the latest trends and best practices in the field, network with their peers, and gain new ideas and inspiration for their teaching.
